Decrypt is an online newspaper focused on blockchain, Web3 and artificial intelligence.[1]
History
[edit]Decrypt was founded in 2018 during the crypto winter by Josh Quittner, Ilan Hazan, and Ryan Bubinskithe. The company was tied to the incubator ConsenSys Mash.[2]
In 2021, the company hired journalists Dan Roberts (from Yahoo Finance), John Roberts (from Fortune), and Alanna Roazzi-Laforet (from Condé Nast and IAB), plus staff from ABC News and The Street.[2] In the same year, Decrypt made a partnership with Protocol Labs for the distribution of the Filecoin cryptocurrency according to the users engagement with its website.[3]
In 2023, Decrypt raised US$10 million through 22 angel investors, such as Hack.VC, Hashkey Capital, Canvas Ventures, Protocol Labs, SK Group, Global Coin Research DAO, Own.fund, Honey DAO and Orange DAO, and became independent from Consensys.[4][5] In the same year, Decrypt declared its intentions to merge with Rug Radio.[6]
